My 7th Q&A continues this week with NASCAR spotter Billy O'Dea. O'Dea currently is a spotter in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Paul Menard, and Ty Dillon in the Xfinity Series.
1. When did you get an interest in racing?
Billy: When I was about 12 years old. Helped a neighbor build a dirt street stock car.
2. When did you began spotting and who was the first driver you spotted for?
Billy: In the year 2000, I was a second spotter for Mike Skinner, and an primary spotter for Kevin Harvick in 2004.
3. Do you have any pre-race rituals?
Billy: Nothing special. Just a light lunch, and hydrate. Go over the pit road map, and meeting with the crew chief and driver.
4. Name one talent that you have which no knows about?
Billy: I can swing and hit a golf ball club, right handed.
5. Favorite Race Track?
Billy: Darlington, real good racing and Harley ride there every year.
6. Did you have a racing hero growing up?
Billy: Darrell Waltrip
7. Is there any driver from the past that you wish you got to spot for?
Billy: Dale Sr.
8. Day or Night races?
Billy: Night
9. If you had a chance to design a racetrack somewhere. Where would it be and why?
Billy: Finger lakes area New York. Hometown, lots of race fans in that area.
10. Finally, what's one track that you wish was still on the NASCAR schedule?
Billy: North Wilkesboro
